Refrigerator Repair in Atlanta: Tell Us What Changed

In Atlanta homes, nobody needs to know the name of the broken part. You only need to notice what changed: the milk is not as cold, the freezer is suddenly frosty, there is water by the toe kick, or the fridge has started making a noise you have never heard before. That is enough for Switch Appliance Repair to start.

We repair refrigerators in homes, rentals, offices and small businesses across Atlanta. A technician diagnoses the fridge in your kitchen, explains what is going on in plain English and gets the cooling back on track — so the rest of your day can get back in rhythm.

Call (470) 319-8098 or use the form on this page. Brand, symptom, ZIP code — that is all we need to find you a time. Same- or next-day visits are often available.

Symptom First: What Your Fridge Is Telling You

"The fridge is warm, but the freezer is fine." What may be going on: cold air is not making it from the freezer into the fresh-food section. A frosted evaporator coil, a stalled evaporator fan or a stuck damper are the usual reasons.

"Both sides are warm." What may be going on: the cooling system is not running properly. Think condenser coil choked with dust, a condenser fan that stopped, a failed start relay or a control board that has quit calling for cold.

"There is water on the floor." What may be going on: a blocked defrost drain, a cracked water line to the ice maker or dispenser, a drain pan out of place or a leaking inlet valve.

"The freezer has heavy frost." What may be going on: the automatic defrost is not working. The defrost heater, the defrost thermostat or sensor, or the board that runs the cycle has failed. A door left slightly open can also do it.

"It clicks, then goes quiet." What may be going on: the compressor tries to start and the start device shuts it down. Often the relay, sometimes the compressor.

"It is louder than usual." What may be going on: a fan motor bearing wearing out, a blade brushing against ice, or a water valve buzzing as it opens.

"The ice maker went quiet." What may be going on: a frozen fill tube, a failed inlet valve, low water pressure or a worn ice maker module. Our Ice Maker Repair page goes deeper.

"The display shows a code." Snap a photo of it. It helps us narrow things down before we arrive.

How Switch Handles a Refrigerator Call

Start your repair request. Call or send the form. Our phones are answered 24/7. Tell us the brand, the symptom and how long it has been going on.

We diagnose the refrigerator. Our technician measures real temperatures, checks the condenser and both fans, tests the defrost parts and the start circuit, and looks at the water system on models that have one.

You get the facts. We explain what failed and what the repair involves. You decide whether to go ahead — no pressure to replace a fridge that can be fixed.

We repair, test and wrap up. We install genuine or OEM-approved parts, run the refrigerator and confirm it is pulling temperature in both sections. Repairs are backed by a warranty of up to 6 months on parts and labor, and up to 12 months on Sub-Zero.

What Is Inside a Refrigerator Repair

A fridge looks like a box with a light, but it is really five small systems sharing one cabinet.

The sealed system. Compressor, condenser coil, evaporator coil and the refrigerant that moves between them. Work here calls for EPA 608 certified technicians — and we have them.

Fans and airflow. The condenser fan keeps the compressor from overheating. The evaporator fan pushes cold air through the cabinet. Either one stopping can make a healthy fridge warm.

Defrost. A heater melts frost off the evaporator coil on a schedule, and a thermostat or sensor ends the cycle. One failed part and frost builds until airflow is blocked.

Controls and sensors. Thermistors tell the main board how cold each section is; the board decides when to run the compressor and fans.

Water, ice and doors. Inlet valve, lines, filter, ice maker, dispenser, gaskets, hinges and door switches.

Knowing which system failed is the difference between one repair visit and a series of guesses.

Quick Checks Before You Call

  • Make sure the refrigerator is plugged in and the breaker has not tripped.
  • Look at the temperature setting; a bumped dial is more common than you might think.
  • Pull everything away from the vents inside the fresh-food section.
  • Check whether the doors close on their own and the gaskets are not folded over.
  • Listen at the bottom: is the condenser fan running when the fridge runs?

If those are fine and the fridge is still warm, it is time for a technician.

Keep the Food Safe in the Meantime

Keep the doors closed. A closed refrigerator keeps food safe for about 4 hours; a full freezer, about 48 hours (USDA). Move milk, meat and medicine into a cooler with ice if the repair is more than a few hours away. Food that has been above 40°F for over 2 hours should be thrown out.

Repair or Replace? Get the Facts First

Most refrigerator problems come down to one part: a fan, a sensor, a defrost heater, a relay, a valve, a gasket, a board. Fixing that part is usually the smart call.

Replacement may be the sharper move when a basic, older refrigerator has a failed compressor or a refrigerant leak inside the walls, or when parts are no longer available. Either way, you get our honest read before you spend anything.

Built for Homes, Rentals, Offices and Small Businesses

A dead refrigerator hits every property differently, and we plan the visit around who is affected.

Homes and condos. We work around your schedule, protect the floor when the fridge rolls out and keep you posted on what we find.

Rentals and property managers. Tell us who will let the technician in. We report the cause and the repair clearly, so the owner, the manager and the tenant all hear the same story.

Offices and small businesses. A break-room fridge or a residential-style unit in a small shop matters to everyone who uses it. We can often schedule around business hours.

Whatever the property, the goal is the same: find the cause, fix it right and leave the refrigerator cooling.

Refrigerator Repair FAQ

How soon can a technician come out?

Same- or next-day visits are often available, depending on your location and the technician route. Call (470) 319-8098 early for the soonest opening.

The freezer side is cold, the fridge side is not. Compressor?

Rarely. A cold freezer tells us the compressor is doing its job. The problem is usually airflow between the two sections — a frozen coil, a fan or a damper.

How cold should my refrigerator be?

At or below 40°F, with the freezer at 0°F, per USDA and FDA guidance.

Do you repair high-end built-in refrigerators?

Yes. We work on built-in and column refrigerators from brands like Sub-Zero, Thermador, Viking, Miele and Monogram, as well as everyday freestanding models.

Can you repair a refrigerator in a rental property?

Yes. We work with landlords and property managers; just let us know who will meet the technician.

What parts do you install?

Genuine or OEM-approved parts.

Is my refrigerator repair covered by a warranty?

Yes. Refrigerator repairs carry up to 6 months on parts and labor; Sub-Zero repairs carry up to 12 months.
